NEW SKEIN WINDER! Bluster Bay Clock Reel Makes Winding Skeins a Breeze

The design of our six-arm, two-yard reel is based on extensive research of historical clock reels. It is not an exact reproduction of any one historic reel, but rather is an interpretation that incorporates elements of several traditional designs with modern components to improve function and durability.

Three Beautiful Woods in Limited Supply

A recent wood-buying trip yielded small amounts of the woods described below. Please note, within each description, which Bluster Bay products are available made from these woods.

Shuttles are only available made from these woods until our current supply is gone. When ordering shuttles from these woods, please give a second wood choice.

Boat shuttle made from Amazique

Amazique, also known as shedua, grows in tropical West Africa and is closely related to bubinga. The color of this wood varies through shades of golden brown, usually with black striping and a lustrous sheen. Due to its high resistance to abrasion, it is used extensively for custom flooring. It is hard and dense, similar in weight to bubinga, finishes very smoothly, and polishes to a high luster.
All shuttles styles are availble made fom Amazique; swifts are not available in this wood.

Swedish-style shuttle made from Mayan rosewood

Mayan Rosewood grows throughout Central America. It is currently being used in musical instruments, often as a substitute for the increasingly scarce Bolivian rosewood.  This wood is wonderful to work and makes great shuttles. It is reddish-brown, straight-grained, dense and hard, about the same weight as bubinga, and takes a smooth shiny finish.
Only Swedish-style shuttles and poke shuttles are available from Mayan rosewood; boat shuttles, end-feed shuttles and swifts are not available in this wood.

Swedish-style shuttle made from Peruvian Walnut

Peruvian Walnut grows throughout Mexico, and Central and South America. It is a true walnut and closely related to North American black walnut, and very similar to black walnut in hardness and weight. The color is much darker than black walnut, shading from very dark brown to almost black with a fine texture that takes an excellent polish.
Only Swedish-style shuttles and poke shuttles are available from Peruvian walnut; boat shuttles, end-feed shuttles and swifts are not available in this wood.
