Two-piece spool swift:
The two-piece swift operates much like a traditional squirrel-cage swift. The pieces can be clamped to any vertical surface such as a bookcase side or the edge of an open door. They can be attached at any distance apart to accommodate skeins of any length. Their design in based on tiny, antique swifts used in the era before machine-produced sewing and embroidery threads. They were designed to hold very small skeins and clamp horizontally, side by side, on the edge of a counter or table. They were variously referred to as clamp reels, silk reels, and spool swifts. Because Bluster Bay spool swifts are considerably larger and designed to hold yarn in addition to thread, they work best when clamped vertically rather than horizontally so that skeins will not sag between spools. However, they may be used successfully in a horizontal orientation for skeins with a very small diameter. BLUSTER BAY SPOOL SWIFT
